A man has been diagnosed with a Netflix addiction after spending eight hours a day over the past six months binge watching shows.
The unnamed 26-year-old closed himself off from reality to escape into the action on the screen in front of him, according to local media.
And psychology professor Manoj Kumar Sharma said that the man was spending at least eight hours a day watching Netflix because it made him "feel good".
He has been receiving counselling at a special facility called Service for Healthy Use of Technology (Shut) in a bid to kick his compulsive need to \'escape reality\'.
Prof Sharma said the man\'s addiction was a "form of escapism" he used whenever he was pressured into finding a job by family members or felt jealous about his friends appearing to do well in life.
The first thing he did at the start of each day was put the TV on lose himself in scripted entertainment.
According to the Shut clinic, the young man soon found himself unable to develop any form of self-discipline and he suffered from lethargy, eye strain and deprived sleep.
Experts have assigned him a therapy plan that includes relaxation activities, exercise and career guidance.
Counsellors have also reportedly noticed that schoolchildren are developing unhealthy habits with TV and electrical devices which are affecting their academic results.
