[17:58.36]and with greater comprehension.
[18:02.25]Here are some suggestions on how to deal
[18:06.75]with some bad reading habits.
[18:10.53]If you mouth each word as you read,
[18:14.43]this slows you down to a snail\'s pace.
[18:18.74]The best way to correct this problem
[18:22.73]is to place a finger on your lips and hold them firmly shut
[18:28.92]until you\'ve broken the habit.
[18:32.42]If your head swings as your eyes move along a line
[18:37.23]lock your head between your hands as you read
[18:42.04]If you follow print with your finger,
[18:46.03]grip the reading material firmly with both hands
[18:50.84]or sit on your hands while you read.
[18:54.94]Here are more suggestions to train yourself
[18:59.43]to read better and faster:
[19:03.22]Read in a quiet spot as free from distractions as possible
[19:11.03]But don\'t daydream;
[19:14.22]force yourself to concentrate on what you\'re reading.
[19:19.10]If you stumble over unfamiliar words
[19:23.39]try to guess the meaning from the context,
[19:27.49]then check the meaning in a dictionary later.
[19:32.58]Don\'t reread.
[19:35.77]Pretend the words disappear as your eyes pass over them
[19:40.97]You\'ll probably be surprised to find
[19:45.04]that you didn\'t miss anything important.
[19:49.04]Try glancing only at nouns and verbs in sentences
[19:54.13]to see how much you can get out of reading this way
[19:59.44]The secret of success is constant practice.
