[00:-1.00]At school, Sandy often went to the library with her best friend, Autumn,
[00:-2.00]who came to America from Japan.
[00:-3.00]They were in the same grade,
[00:-4.00]even though Autumn was a year older.
[00:-5.00]They helped each other with homework,
[00:-6.00]worked on research for class assignments and talked about their problems.
[00:-7.00]Sandy explained her parents didn\'t like her makeup or her music
[00:-8.00]and were getting very strict.
[00:-9.00]Autumn\'s parents made her study on Saturday nights
[00:10.00]but Sandy didn\'t tell her parents.
[00:11.00]She didn\'t want to give them any ideas!
[00:12.00]The teenagers shared many secrets, trusting each other entirely.
[00:13.00]Sandy told Autumn about her telephone conversations with her brother Bill
[00:14.00]An only child, Autumn liked hearing about Sandy\'s brother.
[00:15.00]Sandy didn\'t tell anyone Autumn had a boyfriend.
[00:16.00]Autumn\'s parents didn\'t permit her to date
[00:17.00]and insisted Autumn attend Japanese school on Saturdays.
[00:18.00]During lunch, she visited her boyfriend, Jackson,
[00:19.00]at an ice cream shop near where he worked.
[00:20.00]Autumn described Jackson as very funny,
[00:21.00]always telling jokes and making her laugh. After seeing Jackson,
[00:22.00]Autumn usually shared his jokes with Sandy.
[00:23.00]Autumn looked sad.
[00:24.00]"What\'s the matter, Autumn?" asked Sandy.
[00:25.00]"I wish I could really go out with Jackson,
[00:26.00]not just see him in secret.
[00:27.00]I do not often lie to my parents, but I have to lie about Jackson."
[00:28.00]"I understand," said Sandy,
[00:29.00]"but you\'re lucky. At least you have a boyfriend."
[00:30.00]"I feel lucky. He\'s so good looking, smart and funny.
[00:31.00]I really like him.
[00:32.00]I just wish I didn\'t have to keep secrets from my parents."
[00:33.00]"I know what you mean. My brother, Bill, has been calling me,
[00:34.00]but doesn\'t want me to tell my parents."
[00:35.00]"Why not?" asked Autumn.
[00:36.00]"He\'s having a really hard time in school
[00:37.00]failing one of his really difficult classes. I\'m worried about him
[00:38.00]"Maybe your parents could help him.
[00:39.00]He should probably talk to them. What class is it?"
[00:40.00]"Higher level math. Math was never his best subject," answered Sandy
[00:41.00]"He always seemed like a really bright person," said Autumn.
[00:42.00]"That\'s just an act," said Sandy.
[00:43.00]"Bill has a really hard time paying attention.
[00:44.00]You and I help each other work things out and do a lot together.
[00:45.00]Bill can\'t do that. He won\'t let anybody know he isn\'t perfect
[00:46.00]That\'s why he doesn\'t want me to say anything to our parents,
[00:47.00]but they need to know. I promised I wouldn\'t tell them.
[00:48.00]What should I do?
[00:49.00]His grades are very low. If he fails, my parents will be so upset
[00:50.00]"If you promised, you can\'t tell. But he sounds like he needs help
[00:51.00]"You\'re right, Autumn. He\'s mentioned dropping out of school.
[00:52.00]I\'m so worried because my parents would feel terrible
[00:53.00]I just don\'t know what to do."
[00:54.00]"I don\'t get it. Why does he have to drop out?
[00:55.00]He\'s only failing one class," said Autumn.
[00:56.00]"He feels he just doesn\'t fit in at college. He\'s very quiet
[00:57.00]by himself and doesn\'t like to go to parties too much.
[00:58.00]He likes to sit at home, listen to music, and draw.
[00:59.00]He\'s kind of a dreamer."
[-1:00.00]"Is he very unhappy?" asked Autum quietly
[-1:-1.00]"I\'m not sure," said Sandy. "When I ask, he says no,
[-1:-2.00]but sometimes he doesn\'t really answer.
[-1:-3.00]"That\'s brave — to ask," said Autumn.
[-1:-4.00]" He\'s my brother. I want to help him," Sandy said.
[-1:-5.00]"College isn\'t right for him because he doesn\'t like to study.
[-1:-6.00]But I can\'t tell my parents
[-1:-7.00]because they go crazy when anything is not perfect," said Sandy.
[-1:-8.00]"That\'s probably why he doesn\'t tell them," said Autumn.
[-1:-9.00]"Sandy, this is a serious problem. He\'s in trouble and needs help
[-1:10.00]maybe more than you can give."
[-1:11.00]"Maybe we shouldn\'t talk like this, but I\'m worried about him
[-1:12.00]It\'s so awful when you have to keep secrets.I hate secrets,"said Sandy
[-1:13.00]"I do too," smiled Autumn, "but I\'m glad you told me.
[-1:14.00]My problem with Jackson doesn\'t seem so bad now."
[-1:15.00]Sandy smiled at her friend.
[-1:16.00]"I\'m happy for you.
[-1:17.00]I think you need to stop thinking about Jackson so much.
[-1:18.00]If your parents find out, you\'ll have a huge problem."
[-1:19.00]"You\'re right. I\'d better get going.
[-1:20.00]I\'ll call you tonight at eight o\'clock."
[-1:21.00]"OK. Thanks for listening." "No problem." 听力3000第一册unit10 听力教程第三版第一册unit5 听力3000第一册答案unit9 听力3000第一册unit8答案 听力教程第三版3unit5
