老外说sweet water不是想喝甜水，这意思区别有点大
今天我们要说的是sweet water这个短语。
字面上来看，它的意思是「甜水」or 「糖水」，不过如果你真的这么理解，就大错特错了。
它的真正意思是「淡水」， 即fresh water。
例如：

The girl needs some sweet water.
那姑娘需要一些淡水。
同时它也可以表示「甘泉」。
例如：

The joy of life is a deep spring. Only when digging deep, can you draw clear and sweet water.
生活的乐趣是一口很深的泉眼，只有深深的开掘，才能汲出清润、甘甜的泉水。
此外，sweet系列“望文生义”的例子还有个很常见的，那就是sweet tooth，
sweet表示“甜的，甜蜜的”，tooth表示“牙齿”，那sweet tooth表示“甜蜜的牙齿”？
其实，sweet tooth是“嗜吃甜食”的意思，英文释义是a great liking for sweet-tasting food, a weakness for sweets; someone with a liking for sweets，即“爱吃甜食，对甜食没有抵抗力；爱吃甜食的人”。
例如：
She has a sweet tooth, but as she’s rather fat, she must resist eating chocolate too often.
虽然特别喜欢吃甜食，但是她已经超重，不能再常吃巧克力了。
I’m a sweet tooth, I couldn’t help eating all the remains of my birthday cake after the party.
我嗜吃甜食，总是忍不住把聚会剩下的蛋糕吃个精光。
所以，当老外说你是sweet tooth时，不是在说你的牙齿甜，也不是在夸你嘴甜，可千万别理解错了~

They're the couple in the corner, whispering/murmuring sweet nothings to each other. 角落里有一对情侣，正在互相说着情话。

It doesn't matter how much advice I give Cathy, she always goes her own sweet way.
不管我给Cathy多少建议，她都随心所欲。
那么，既然今天学到了sweet tooth，那我们不妨来学一批和甜品有关的习语吧。
英语里有很多习语都和蛋糕甜品有关，这些和日常生活相关的英语知识学起来并不难哦。
a piece of cake
大家对这个习语很熟悉啦，和中文里的“小菜一碟”类似，形容非常容易的事情。
The exam was a piece of cake.
考试很简单。
还有一个有趣的习语 easy as pie，像做馅饼一样简单，也形容很容易，不费吹灰之力。
have your cake
and eat it (too)
鱼与熊掌无法兼得，你怎么能吃掉蛋糕而又保有它呢？所以，这个习语多用于否定句。
You can't have your cake and eat it - if you want more local services, you can't expect to pay less tax.
你不能二者兼得——想获得更多的地方服务就不能指望少付税金。
Roger can't make up his mind whether to go to college or get a job. You can't eat your cake and have it, too.
罗杰下不了决心是上大学还是找工作, 两者不可兼得。
the icing on the cake
icing指的是（糕饼表层的）糖衣，这里是用蛋糕上的糖衣来比喻锦上添花之物。
I was just content to see my daughter in such a stable relationship but a grandchild, that really was the icing on the cake.
看到女儿与女婿的关系很稳定我已感到满足，后来又添了外孙，这可真是锦上添花。
as American as apple pie
很多人想起美国会想到自由女神像，想到好莱坞，而对吃货来说，也会想到苹果派。这个习语的意思就是“地道美国式的”。
Leather jackets are as American as apple pie and Harley-Davidsons.
皮夹克具有典型的美国特色，此外还有哈利-戴维森摩托车。
be in apple-pie order
这个习语形容“像苹果派一样”井然有序、整整齐齐。
Their house is always in apple-pie order.
他们家总是收拾得井井有条。
be (as) flat as a pancake
pancake的意思是“薄煎饼”，它的特点就是又平又圆又薄。这个习语就形容非常平坦，平坦如镜。
The land in that area is as flat as a pancake.
剑桥周围的乡村地势平坦如砥。
that's the way
the cookie crumbles
crumble的意思是（使）粉碎；（使）成碎屑，曲奇饼成了碎屑，比喻“事已定局，无可变更”。
这和中文里的“生米已成熟饭”意思差不多。
We lost the game, but that’s just the way the cookie crumbles.
我们输了比赛，但是事以至此只能这样了。
go/sell like hot cakes
谁不爱热气腾腾的美味蛋糕呢？这个习语就是“热销”的意思。
The new game is apparently selling like hot cakes.
显然，他新设计的电子游戏很畅销。
the slice/share of the cake
slice指切下的食物薄片，share是一份，份额，这很符合中文里分一杯羹的说法。
Everyone should have a fair slice of the cake.
每个人都应公平地分到一份。
